Recreation Senior Services
Congregant Senior Nutrition Program
Union County has a Senior Nutrition Program, "Senior Cafe," which offers delicious lunches for adults ages 55+. Each meal is nutritionally balanced to meet the dietary and health needs of mature men and women.
This program is made possible by a grant from the United States government under the Older Americans Act and the Union County Board of County Commissioners. A donation of $1.75 is suggested.
All lunches include:
- Juice or soup
- Meat, fish, or poultry
- Pasta or vegetables
- Dessert

Volunteers Needed!
Scotch Plains is seeking volunteers to assist with the Senior Congregate Nutrition Program between 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. Volunteers help set up the lunch, spend time with the residents and then clean up afterward.

Meridians
The Meridian Club has been in Scotch Plains since the 1950's and is open to all Scotch Plains residents ages 55+
This is a casual, fun, social group geared toward older seniors. Group meetings take place every Tuesday from 9:00 am - 1:30 pm at the Shady Rest Clubhouse. Activities include games such as bridge and scrabble, and there is a celebration for birthdays each month.
There is a $10 membership fee.
Golden Agers
The Golden Agers Club was established in 1966 and meets weekly from September - June. Meetings take place on Thursdays from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at the Shady Rest Clubhouse.
Weekly activities include bingo, arts and crafts, parties for special occasions, special luncheons, guest speakers, and more! Day trips are scheduled throughout the year. There is a $25 membership fee to join the club.

Senior Transportation Services
Our senior transportation services are available to Scotch Plains residents ages 55+. We provide trips to Blue Star Shopping Center in Watchung on Wednesdays.
- All passengers must be self-reliant or accompanied by an aid
- Bus routes are assigned by neighborhood
- Passengers will be assigned a day and pick-up/drop-off times according to neighborhood
Additionally, transportation to club meetings is also available (Meridian Club and the Golden Agers Club).

- All bus routes and times are subject to change without notice, at the discretion of the driver
- The Recreation Department is not responsible for any passenger beyond the confines of the vehicle
- For the safety of each passenger, the driver may determine whether or not a passenger can be transported
