In the event of a sewer back up after 3pm, or on weekends and holidays, please call the non-emergency police number 908-322-7100 for immediate assistance and a crew will be dispatched.
The Department of Public Property consists of the Director, 14 Employees of diverse trade and expertise and 2 administrative assistants.
The Department of Public Property is responsible for the following:
- Curbside pickup of leaves, brush , limbs, gumball and Christmas trees
- Installation and removal of holiday decorations
- Maintenance and cleaning of municipal buildings, sidewalks, parking lots and curbs
- Maintenance and repair of municipal vehicles and equipment used by Public Property, Recreation, Police and Fire Departments
- Maintenance and repair of public storm sewers
- Maintenance and repair of sanitary sewers mains
- Maintenance of municipal roads including pot holes, patching and resurfacing
- Management of the Recycling Program
- Reporting of street light outages, lamp posts and repairs
- Snow removal and plowing of municipal roads and parking lots
- Spring Residential Cleanup Program and permits
- Street sweeping
- Trimming and removal of trees and management of stump grinding contract

Please note: Leaf Pick Up will begin in late October.

Only biodegradable paper bags will be accepted. DO NOT bag leaves in plastic.

Please keep as many cars off the road as possible to speed the process.

Residents should ensure leaf piles are free of branches, rocks, stumps, etc., to prevent equipment damage

Weather permitting, sweepers will be operating after the last collection cycle
Residents who have more vegetation to dispose of can purchase a permit to dispose at the Westfield Conservation Center: https://www.westfieldnj.gov/conservation
