Message from Mayor Josh Losardo | November 18, 2022
Leaves are falling, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and so are the winter holidays. As much as I love the summer, this time of year is particularly wonderful.
Last Friday, we celebrated Veterans Day by closing Park Avenue and honoring the town’s veterans at our War Memorial on Park Avenue and Front Street. Hosted by our Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10122 and American Legion Post 209, Joe McCourt, VFW’s Post Adjutant, led the town’s annual tribute to our neighbors who served in the U.S. Military. A copy of my remarks at the service can be found here.
Last Saturday, we had the opportunity to gather and honor United States Army Private Anthony Perrucci, who was killed in action during World War II. We honored this fallen hero with a ceremonial street sign placed at the intersections of Montague and Westfield Avenue and Stout and Westfield Avenue.
Private Perrucci was born at 1998 Westfield Ave. and raised by his parents, Amelia Appezato and Angelo Marino Perrucci. He is among the 17,453 American Gold Star casualties recorded with ties to New Jersey.
In other news, the Township Council held its November meeting in which it adopted the soil percolation testing requirements (for major developments, such as sub-divisions) that will provide our land use boards with more tools to reduce the likelihood of flooding after construction.
We also took additional steps to prepare our Fire Department for its future which will include ambulance services for township residents during emergencies.
I encourage residents to tune in to our meetings every month. There is always a lot covered, as we work together to further improve Scotch Plains. You can watch the meeting at FiOS Ch. 22, Comcast Ch. 34 or through the town website, scotchplainsnj.gov
Also, feel free to contact our town manager, me, or any of my colleagues on the Township Council with any questions or to share your thoughts. Our contact information is located on the municipal website.
We are beginning to prepare for our committees and boards for 2023. Please contact me at
There are many opportunities to give back and we welcome your participation!
Finally, be on the lookout for news about our Christmas Tree and Menorah lightings, and other holiday events, which fills the Alan Augustine Village Green with happy families.
Santa usually makes the time to wave from our fire truck ladder as the tree is lit, something fun for residents of all ages to see. And there will be plenty of fun, food and music as we light the menorah, as well.
I hope to see you soon and wish you a happy holiday season. Thank you for the opportunity to serve our wonderful community. It is truly an honor.
