Scotch Plains Council Honors 40-Year Planning Board Member

The Township Council adopted a resolution this week honoring Robert LaCosta, who has volunteered for the planning board since Jan. 1, 1982, as well as served as Scotch Plains’ building inspector and construction code official for four decades.

“As Class II planning board members can only be appointed to a one-year term, Bob has been appointed, and re-appointed, dozens of times to this position by every mayor,” said Mayor Josh Losardo. “We want to thank and commend Bob for his dedication and service to the residents of Scotch Plains and the State of New Jersey, representing code officials in New Jersey.

LaCosta has also been a member of the New Jersey Building Officials Association since 1980, serving at one point as president and now serving as an Executive Committee Legislative Representative. LaCosta has also been a member of the Municipal Construction Officials of New Jersey since 1998, now as Treasurer.

LaCosta is also affiliated with many organizations in town. He is a member of the Scotch Plains Italian-American Club, American Legion, St. Bart’s Feed the Veterans Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Hometown Heroes Veteran Banner Program, former Chairman of the Raritan Valley Sewerage Authority, Commissioner for the Raritan Valley & Plainfield Area Sewerage Authority and a member of the Scotch Plains Downtown Redevelopment Task Force.
