Petition to Honor Legacy of Scotch Plains Icon John Shippen Started
Scotch Plains residents we need your help!
A petition to the Stamp Advisory Committee has been started to honor the legacy of John Shippen, the first American-born golf professional and the first African American golf professional.
Shippen served the head professional at Scotch Plains' historic Shady Rest from 1924 until his retirement in 1960. This year, of course, is also the 100th anniversary of Shady Rest.
Your signature can help pave the way to get Shippen recognized on a U.S. Heritage Postal Stamp and/or Commemorative Stamp and would be an inspiration to students, educators, and the golf community throughout the world.
