Scotch Plains Marks Vietnam Veterans Day

Mayor Josh Losardo joined with Vietnam veterans and township officials to observe Vietnam Veterans Day on Tuesday.  There was a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial in downtown Scotch Plains on the grounds of town hall.

“We have many Vietnam veterans in our community and are eager to find ways to voice our appreciation for their service and sacrifice,” the mayor said. “Vietnam Veterans Day is another important moment in which we can show the gratitude of the people of Scotch Plains.”

March 30 is observed as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. On March 30, 1973, all U.S. troops withdrew from Vietnam. In total, 3 million members of the U.S. military served in Southeast Asia. The majority of them came home, but more than 58,000 made the ultimate sacrifice.
