Scotch Plains Marks the First-Ever "COVID 19 Heroes Day"
The Mayor and Council applaud the unwavering support expressed by Gov. Phil Murphy for the passage of a Resolution that honors all front-line workers, including emergency responders and teachers, as part of a COVID-19 Heroes Day.
“There are so many selfless individuals in Scotch Plains who heeded the call, serving our community in a time of crisis and amidst the tremendous uncertainty of this global pandemic” said Mayor Josh Losardo. “The Mayor and Council is in full support of Governor Murphy’s action to create 'Covid-19 Heroes Day' on March 9, which will serve as an ever-present reminder of the dedication of our friends and neighbors when they were needed most."
Murphy signed the bill on March 9, designating the date each year to celebrate the state’s heroes.
“From nurses and doctors to grocery store workers and law enforcement, countless essential workers have been working day and night to serve New Jerseyans during these trying times,” the governor said. “It is my honor to sign this bill recognizing the heroic efforts of those who have been serving on the front lines. These heroes have brought us to this moment where we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel."
The bi-partisan Heroes Day Resolution sponsored by State Sen. Vin Gopal (D-Monmouth) and Sen. Anthony Bucco (R-Morris) demonstrates the unified support of all parties to celebrate and pay tribute to the state’s essential workforce.
