Recreation Leader

The Township of Scotch Plains Recreation Department is seeking a full-time Recreation Leader to join the Recreation Department team.  This entry-level position is a great stepping stone for recent college graduates or those early in their professional careers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform daily phone, email, and in-person customer service to residents
  • Assist with the planning, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of various recreational programs, activities, and events
    • Responsible for creating seasonal brochures, flyers, and social media content for marketing purposes
  • Provides general supervision of scheduled programs; may occasionally lead, oversee, and participate in recreational activities including, but not limited to, filling in as program instructor, coach, referee/umpire/official as needed
  • Ensure program guidelines and safety practices are followed
  • Perform field preparation duties for various sports and activities
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate concepts, techniques, procedures, rules and regulations necessary for recreational programs
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; ensures the proper use of equipment
  • Will be required to learn how to utilize Community Pass for registrations and program reports
  • Assist the residents of Scotch Plains in booking picnic and facility rentals/reservations
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of program instructors, coaches, volunteers, and summer camp counselors
  • Responsibilities also include supporting other administrative functions, as needed

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be an energetic, self-motivated, team player 
  • Multi-tasking, effective verbal and communication skills, and computer proficiency are a must
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and irregular hours as required, given the nature of the position (occasional nights and weekends)
  • Recreation certifications and/or previous recreation-related experience is a plus, but not required
  • Valid Driver’s License
