CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF APPEALS    

The mission of the Construction Board of Appeals is to hear appeals from decisions made by the municipal enforcement agency.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION 

The Environmental Commission advises the Town Council and municipal officials on environmental issues that may affect the natural resources and residents of the Township.  The Commission also reviews and comments on all development applications for the Township’s land use boards.

RECREATION COMMISSION

The Recreation Commission advises the Town Council and municipal officials on all recreation matters, including utilization of our parks and town events.

LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Library Board of Trustees are committed to supporting the growth of library services to the community.

PLANNING BOARD 

The Planning Board is responsible for review and consideration of applications for development in the Township.

ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT

The Zoning Board of Adjustment considers requests for interpretation of the Zoning Map, general bulk variances, use variances, variances from conditional use standards and other matters.

GREEN BROOK FLOOD CONTROL COMMISSION

The Green Brook Flood Control Commission seeks a comprehensive flood control solution for the entire Green Brook Basis and handles other matters.

There is currently no Scotch Plains vacancy on the Commission, but resumes are welcome for future consideration.

OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The Office of Emergency Management is responsible for comprehensive planning for and responding to all emergencies.

PLAINFIELD AREA REGIONAL SEWER AUTHORITY (PARSA)

The Plainfield Area Regional Sewer Authority acts as the steward of the regional wastewater system and will ensure that there is capacity available for any participant community to continue development, without the need to expand the interceptor system (installing larger pipes), and other matters.

RAHWAY VALLEY SEWER AUTHORITY (RVSA)

The Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority shall be the best, most efficiently run sewerage authority, in full compliance with all regulations, in the State of New Jersey. The Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority (RVSA) is an autonomous agency that owns and operates a trunk sewer system and a wastewater treatment facility in Rahway, New Jersey. The RVSA currently serves more than 250,000 residents and 3,500 industrial and commercial customers in 14 communities in central New Jersey.

UNION COUNTY TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE 

The goal of the Bureau of Transportation Planning is to work toward a balanced transportation system for Union County. It seeks to meet the travel needs of people and goods through a coordinated intermodal transportation system.

COMMITTEES & ADVISORY BOARDS:

AFFORDABLE HOUSING 

The Affordable Housing Committee reviews all Affordable Housing matters, including the Township’s compliance with the Settlement Agreement between the Township and Fair Share Housing Center, dated January 2018.

ADA ADVISORY BOARD   

The ADA Advisory Board is committed to ensuring all residents fully benefit from the laws enacted by the ADA mandate.

COMPLETE STREETS   

The Complete Streets committee is dedicated to advancing safe routes, traffic calming, bike routes and sidewalk construction in the Township.

VETERANS ADVISORY BOARD

The Veterans Advisory Board serves as the conduit through which our town leadership is informed of issues and concerns impacting our veteran community and the many veteran organizations and citizens of our community who support them.

DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Downtown Redevelopment Committee was formed to memorialize the Township’s vision for a revitalized downtown.

GREEN TEAM

The Green Team is a group of residents, township volunteers and business representatives who work with the Mayor and Town Council to create policies and practices which provide a clean, safe and sustainable community to live, work and play for this and future generations.

HISTORICAL DOCUMENTATION & PRESERVATION COMMITTEE 

The Historical Documentation and Preservation Committee is dedicated to preserving and sharing the great history of the Township.

The Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) is a statewide community health initiative that provides evidence-based tools and strategies for mayors and community leaders to help their residents achieve healthier lifestyles and to improve overall health and wellness in their communities.
