With another significant Arctic cold snap plunging south into large portions of the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and Northeast, frozen pipes and water damage remain a major concern to homeowners.

The Scotch Plains Department of Inspections offer these best practices to help prevent frozen pipes and the resulting water damage during extremely cold weather.

Quick Tips to Help Prevent Frozen Pipes

  • Keep your thermostat set to at least 60°F at all times
  • Open cabinet doors where piping is present, such as in the bathroom and kitchen
  • Let water drip from all faucets during extreme cold
  • Ensure all pipes are well insulated
