Scotch Plains to Celebrate Earth Day on April 23 with Community Cleanup

Join the Scotch Plains Green Team on Saturday, April 23 to mark Earth Day with a community clean-up. It all begins at 8 a.m. Volunteers should register at Community Pass.

Participants will be assigned a location, which includes municipal property, parks or banks of waterways. Children as young as six can participate, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“A community clean-up is our way of celebrating the arrival of spring in Scotch Plains,” said Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Stamler, council liaison to the Green Team. “I would like to thank all the volunteers who are putting this annual program together, another way in which we work together to keep Scotch Plains beautiful.”

The township will provide all supplies. The celebration continues at the Scotch Plains Public Library on Bartle Avenue, from 9-11 a.m., for a seedling give-away.

The program is funded through the NJ Tree Recovery Campaign, via the Arbor Day Foundation and New Jersey Forest Service Nursery. Participants will also get a free reusable bag, just in time for the May 4 ban on paper and plastic bags in stores, as part of a new state law.
