Winter Storm Advisory for Scotch Plains Issued through Friday, February 25

UPDATE (Thursday, February 24 at 5:15 p.m.)
 
After temperatures in the 60’s yesterday we have returned to normal programming.
 
Snow if forecasted for tonight with minimal accumulations. It will changeover to rain, sleet and freezing rain.
 
Watch your footing when leaving your residence and use caution when driving, the rains may be wet or there may be ice. Drive like it’s ice! 
Here is what you need to know about the upcoming winter weather:
 
Snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain are forecast from Thursday into Friday for the northern half of the state. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Thursday evening through Friday morning for Union County.
 
Impacts to New Jersey
 
A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will hamper travel Thursday night into Friday. This includes the Friday morning commute for areas around and north of the I-95 corridor. Ice accumulation may cause localized power outages and tree damage. Most locations will see a transition to rain on Friday. Winds may be gusty Friday on afternoon. Monitor weather media for forecast updates.
 
Safety Tips
 
🚗 If you MUST drive, have an emergency kit for your car, have a full tank of gas, and don't crowd the plow. Check 511nj.org for traffic conditions before hitting the road.
🔋Keep electronic devices charged up
🧤Limit time outdoors. If you must go out, bundle up and dress in layers.
🔦Report a power outage to your utility company. Do not assume your neighbor has called it in.
🐾Bring pets indoors. If you're cold, they're cold!
🔥Be a good neighbor! Check on those vulnerable to the cold.
