Save the Date - A Town Hall on Flood Relief on February 24

Scotch Plains residents are urged to attend a meeting with Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-7th Dist) on Thursday Feb. 24, from 7-8 p.m., to discuss flooding issues in the township.

The public meeting will take place at Shady Rest Country Club, 820 Jerusalem Rd. RSVPs are preferred to ensure adequate seating. Reserve your seat here.

Scotch Plains Mayor Josh Losardo invited the congressman to meet with township residents, following Hurricane Ida on Sept. 1, 2021, which caused substantial flooding in some neighborhoods. The town hall will focus on how to create a more resilient township through federal remediation efforts.

“Scotch Plains residents know firsthand the damage storm flooding can cause,” Malinowski said. “My office is prepared to help constituents navigate federal flood relief programs and I look forward to sharing how Congress is working to make NJ-07 communities more resilient and prepared for the next disaster.”

As part of the congressman’s visit, he will also be touring neighborhoods prone to flooding, as well as meet with local emergency responders who can provide a first-hand account for how flooding impacts Scotch Plains.

“We are very pleased to host Congressman Malinowski to address flooding concerns,” Losardo said. “We have met with many residents who have showed us the damage that flooding has caused to their homes and properties. We intend to have a very collaborative relationship with the congressman, as well as other state and federal leaders, to work to resolve the issue. I envision this meeting as the first of many with Congressman Malinowski on this important topic.”
