Scotch Plains Goes Red to Raise Awareness of Heart Disease Among Women

On Friday, Feb. 4, Scotch Plains joined in the American Heart Association’s campaign to “wear red,” spreading the message that heart disease is the leading killer of women.

The signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.

“We all know that women are juggling so much with work and family; and the ongoing struggles with the lingering pandemic have only exacerbated matters,” said Mayor Josh Losardo. “The Go Red campaign raises the alarm that women are experiencing lower physical and emotional wellness and the American Heart Association reports that heart disease deaths spiked last year. Scotch Plains is joining this campaign, urging women to be even more proactive about their health.”

This year, the American Heart Association is urging people – especially women – to “reclaim their rhythm” to live longer and better by using the power of music to get moving and improve heart health.
