Mayor Josh Losardo Congratulates SP-F Girls Volleyball Team on Championship
Scotch Plains Mayor Josh Losardo joined in the celebration Friday, April 23, as the Scotch Plains-Fanwood girls volleyball team completed its historic season with a three-set triumph over Colonia. With the win, the Raiders lay claim to their first-ever state championship in volleyball.
Councilmember Ellen Zimmerman joined the mayor to extend the Council's congratulations to the winners.
"We could not be happier to congratulate these athletes on a terrific season and a state championship," Losardo said. "We were eager to meet with them personally and express all the well wishes and excitement of residents throughout Scotch Plains. So many people have approached us about this state championship. It is a really big deal for our town."
Losardo singled out senior captains Adelina Berisha and Kaelie Chung for their leadership and tremendous play on the court, as well as the hard work of Coach Adrienne Stack.
"This team, from the captains on down, served as a role model for all the other athletes in Scotch Plains who have dreams of winning at the highest levels," the mayor said. "The girls have proven that hard work, mixed with some talent and quality coaching, makes all the difference. This team, like the entire Class of '21, will be remembered for all their accomplishments."
