Message from Deputy Mayor Elizabeth Stamler | September 8, 2022

As many of you know by now, Scotch Plains has one of the best farmers’ markets in the area.

Home to nearly 40 small local vendors, it is the place to be every Saturday morning!

Our market, which is located in the town hall parking lot at 430 Park Ave., is run by Lisa Mohn, owner of Apple Blossom Flower Shop, and Jeff Stein of Incentives USA. To ensure Scotch Plains offers the absolute best products, the pair personally research and visit dozens of farmers’ markets all over the state.

Their commitment is amazing, as they have worked over the past 30 years to ensure we continue to host the best of the best in farmers’ markets, hand selecting top vendors.

Many foodies and other farmers’ market fans throughout the tri-state area have taken notice of what we offer every Saturday morning.

In fact, just last week, the Scotch Plains Farmers’ Market was the featured story on CBS 2's “Shop Local Saturday” segment. Meteorologist John Elliott, who lives in northern New Jersey, brought the news van to town hall to cover our weekly, fun-filled, community-focused event.

Elliott had a great time speaking with a number of vendors and customers, all of whom talked about how the farmers’ market is a popular destination in Scotch Plains through the spring, summer and fall months.

The local weatherman seemed to like the visit just as much as us, as he took plenty of selfies while doing his interviews for a broadcast audience of hundreds of thousands of people throughout the tri-state area.

Clearly enjoying his visit to our downtown, Elliott also popped into many of the small businesses near the farmers’ market, speaking with shop owners and customers about the many ways in which Scotch Plains is so unique and special.

Elliott also stopped into John’s Meat Market, where he was talking about the great, hand-sliced bacon, as well as a landmark business that has served generations of hungry residents.

The weatherman also swung by the Apple Blossom Flower Shop, where Mohn has happily served the community for 28 years, especially brides. And you can’t have a great downtown without an awesome coffee shop, which is why Black Drop Coffee was another ideal drop-in.

The Farmers’ Market, with support and cooperation from the Township, runs through the fall on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., rain or shine. It is proudly managed by the Scotch Plains Business & Professional Association.

Also, please, mark your calendars! The market will host its artisan holiday pop-up event on Dec. 3.  There’s much more to come on that.

The farmers’ market is a bustling place, so we remind residents to please cross at the crosswalks where there are police officers stationed across from Town Hall and on Senger Place.  Stop by and say hello! And be sure to pick up a free reusable market bag, courtesy of the Township.
