JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - Bus Driver (Part-Time)

General Description:

Part-time position, not to exceed twenty-eight (28) hours per week.  Under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Facility Manager, operates a light duty passenger bus; carries out pick-up and or delivery of passenger assignments.  The main responsibility of this position is to pick up senior citizens at their residence and drive them to the grocery store and the Shady Rest Country Club for their weekly meetings.  Also responsible for greeting and welcoming passengers with the ability to communicate courteously and effectively.  Performs other related duties, as required.

Additional Duties May Include but Are Not Limited To:

• Perform maintenance checks to ensure the bus/van and other transportation equipment are in good working order including fueling of vehicles;
• Create routes and keep passenger list up to date;
• Drive assigned vehicle to provide transportation as required;
• Keep accurate records of mileage, gas, and other records as appropriate and necessary for runs
• Expected to spend five (5) to six (6) hours driving during the normal work day;
• Work with the Library to assist with the coordination of book deliveries
• Serve as the building attendant at Shady Rest Country Club once passengers are dropped off for their weekly meetings
• May be asked to assist with phones and other office related tasks;
• Performs other related duties as assigned/required

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older and reside in New Jersey unless otherwise exempted by law
• Must be able to work up to twenty-eight (28) hours per week (may include nights and weekends as needed);
• Strong customer service skills;
• Ability to deal effectively and patiently with the general public, primarily older adults in a pleasant, tactful, professional and efficient manner;
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and able to function efficiently within a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment;
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position

Physical Requirements:

• Must be capable of putting a wheel chair onto the bus lift;
• Ability to bend down and secure all restraints when securing passengers in the bus;
• Ability to fold and lift all walkers onto the bus;
• Ability to assist with carrying groceries

License & Experience:

• Valid NJ Class C-Commercial Driver License with a Passenger Bus Endorsement required
• Minimum one (1) year bus driving experience

Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, background/reference check, motor vehicle record check – including DOT D&A Clearinghouse.

Wages: $30 per hour
